Simon is not only a beautiful show dog, he has a wonderful
laid-back temperament. He stood out from a very early age, and gained his Australian title just before his 1st birthday, in February 05. A few weeks later, at his final appearance in an Australian show ring, he won
SPECIALTY BEST EXHIBIT IN SHOW under Juha Kares (Chic Choix) from Finland.
Simon arrived in the UK at the end of March 2005, and literally bounded out of the car to greet
his new owner, Sally Pointon (Ballito), having been on the road for nearly 48 hours!
He made his UK show debut just 2 weeks later at a club championship show with an entry of 174 dogs and after winning
the 11-strong JD class under specialist Bob Gay (Hazgaye) he finished up being run off for, and winning, the RDCC against the Crufts BOB aged just 14 months!
Two shows later he won his first CC and BOB under all-rounder Bob Gregory, going on to Group 3 under Hans Lehtinen from Finland. He finished the 2005 season with another CC and BOB, under specialist June Smith (Wyndcatch), plus 2 more RDCCs, both coming from specialists - Teresa Wiehe (Lisimo) and Doreen Richardson (Belazieth); he also went home with another club BIS and a RBIS (both also under specialist judges), plus some good wins in the stakes classes.
Due to a coat change during the winter, Sally decided not to show him at the start of the 2006 show season. He made his debut that year at Blackpool in June where he won the RDCC under specialist Jack Anderson (Kerlin). Now competing from the open dog class (due to his Australian title), he did not have to wait long for his 3rd and crowning CC which came at Paignton mid July under all-rounder Clare Coxall at only his 4th championship show of the year. He won another RDCC in September under Poodle specialist Carol Harwood.
In 2007 he finally made an appearance at Crufts, and just loved gaiting round the large carpeted ring. Still just a youngster at 3 years old, he was well placed in a very strong OD class. In April 07 he won RBD at the North of England club show; and the following week he won a good OD class and the RDCC under Shih Tzu specialist Jean Anderton. Two weeks later this was followed by the DCC at Birmingham under another Poodle specialist, Roger Bayliss. Lightly shown all year, he won the DCC and BOB at Windsor in June under breed specialist Elizabeth Luck; then added another DCC at East of England in July under Shih Tzu specialist John Carter. Another club BIS was added in August, at the Lhasa Apso Club of Scotland under toy specialist Rita Morgan; and in October he won his 7th RDCC under all-rounder Bryn Cadogan.
His children, too, are beginning to make a mark in the UK rings all of them winning classes; some going on to win BPIB and RBPIS awards.
